Have you fallen into the temptation of joining an MLM to make money at home? Or maybe you are currently on the fence. Here’s some good news — there are ways to make money as a homemaker without joining an MLM!
I’m not here to bash MLM’s and the many homemakers who are involved with them. I have a few experiences with them myself. I know that for some women they are incredible blessings — but I do have several qualms with them which I may write about in a later post (comment below if you are interested in that).
This post was created to tell women about several options other than joining an MLM. Yes — there are other options! There are so many ways to make money at home that cost less overall and guarantee money.
These methods may not make you rich or enable your husband to quit his job. Here at Happy as a Homemaker, we encourage women to seek Biblical truth and pursue it in everything she does.
We believe it is not necessarily sinful for a wife to bring in an income so long as it is for the purposes to benefit her family (not to glorify herself, add value to herself, and certainly not to neglect her duties as a wife, mother, and homemaker).
Every situation is different and you must seek Godly counsel to discern whether or not you should add something else to your plate.
Without further ado, here are 5 ways to make money as a homemaker without joining an MLM!
Flip Furniture
This is something I personally do from time-to-time. You truly do not have to be an expert or have many tools to flip furniture.
The internet, specifically Jamie Ray Vintage (website and Youtube Channel) is an excellent resource for this.
Below are two pieces I recently flipped. The first was given to me for free by my husband’s aunt. I used this method to paint it (which took less than an hour) and used this paint (affiliate link). I made $50 off of it.
The desk was purchased for $40. I lightly sanded it, painted it with the same chalk paint (affiliate link) and finished it with a polyurethane spray. It sold for $150. I have very little experience and knowledge of furniture flipping!
Sell Things Online
You would be surprised the kinds of things you can sell on Facebook marketplace and Ebay! Be sure to only meetup to sell items if it is safe to do so and it is worth the money for you. My husband and I have both been stood-up in parking lots before even if the person confirmed multiple times they were coming! It can be a huge waste of time, so we will usually only meet people for items over $100. Everything else is sold online or I will allow people to pick things up at my house if my husband is home and their Facebook profile checks out okay.
Watch Children in Your Home
A childcare job where you watch children in your own home can be tough to come by. Most people prefer you watch their children in their own home — but I have seen some people who desire the former. You could even ask to offer a lower rate since you would be watching your children as well.
Signup for a Care.com account or speak with people at your local church for potentials. It’s a good idea to childproof your home and get a CPR/First Aid certification to make yourself more marketable!
Clean Houses
This isn’t necessarily a work from home job — but it’s extremely flexible and profitable! You could clean two homes per week and easily pay for your grocery bill! An old coworker of mine started a cleaning business and was able to quit her serving job within a few months.
Pursue Social Media Marketing
Does your local church or a favorite restaurant have unsightly social media accounts? Ask if you can run their Instagram and Facebook accounts for a few hundred dollars per month. Prepare a few ideas to share with them and you could even offer a free trial month to see if it’s a good fit.
I hope these 5 ways to make money as a Homemaker without Joining an MLM were helpful! Like I said, I am not necessarily against MLM’s in every scenario — but I do think it’s important for homemakers to be aware of the many different options available to help bring in some money. The options listed above cost far less than an MLM and will allow you to bring in money immediately.
