Hello homemakers! I hope this Frugal Christmas Gift Guide doesn’t seem premature — but I hope it does give you the kick in the pants to get started on Christmas shopping and planning NOW!
We like to spread out our shopping over a few months so it isn’t so detrimental to our budget. Also, a lot of what we do is homemade which requires plenty of time and love!
Below are several Christmas gift ideas that won’t break the bank. There are homemade and store bought options.
Without further ado, here’s your Ultimate Frugal Christmas Gift Guide: Homemaker Edition!
Homemade Gift Ideas
Baked Goods
Baked goods are such an affordable and fun gift to give. Your friends and family will anticipate it each year! You could do loaves of spiced pumpkin bread wrapped up beautifully or cute bags with assortments of fudge, peppermint bark, and toffee! The possibilities are endless and completely flexible depending on your time and budget!
Candles
Candles are easy, fun and personable gifts to make! Here is a kit that has everything you need to make 12 candles (at $5 per candle)! You can also buy your own containers from thrift stores — jars, mugs, and planters are good options — and buy a kit like this with just the basics.
Chunky Knitted Blanket
Bear with me here, my non-knitting friends! This blanket is actually extremely easy. I am not a knitter in the least bit and I was able to get one of these blankets done for my mom in a couple of hours. Here is the tutorial I used and I got the chunky yarn from Wal-mart!
Sewn Napkin Set
You will need to have some basic sewing skills for this one. But napkins are truly the easiest thing you can sew. You can make basic ones or get a bit fancier with mitered corners. Here is a tutorial for both! Thrift stores have cheap fabric or old table cloths that will work perfectly. You might even find some nifty napkin rings. This is a great gift for the ladies in your life who love to host!
Body Butter
If you bulk-buy all of the body butter ingredients and make several jars, this ends up being a very affordable gift. Here is an great tutorial with several different scents to try out. With the ever-growing natural living movement, a nice feat. would be to write or print the ingredients on the jar!
Essential Oil Rollers
I love giving essential oil rollers to friends and family because they are so personable! The internet and Pinterest have loads of blends to try for your stressed friend, your pregnant sister, and your friend who needs more energy!
Here is a bulk-pack of rollers to buy. You can use fractionated coconut oil or sweet almond oil as a carrier oil. If you are an essential oil junkie, you probably already have the oils you need. If you are looking to purchase some, the highest quality and lowest price are from the Now brand. I’m not associated with this website at all — but I do recommend purchasing your Now oils from Lucky Vitamin!
Sign Art
Did your friends just get married? Or maybe you and your bestie share a favorite Bible verse or song lyric? Turn it into a beautiful sign they can display in their home. Check out the scrap bin in the lumber department of Home Depot or Lowe’s for a perfect canvas!
Store Bought Gift Ideas
Books
A thoughtfully picked out book with a sweet note written on the inside cover is a lovely gift for the reader in your family!
Plants
I recently gifted our cousin an aloe plant for her dorm room and she loved it! Aloe plants are super easy to keep alive. I’ve had one that is still alive after six years! Thrift stores typically have unique planters you can use!
Dollar Tree Goodies
Hear me out…Dollar Tree has some nice items that would make for a great gift basket or bag. I’ve spent a lot of time shopping there recently, and they have cute decorative items, ring-holders, toys for children, pot-holders and more!
Thrifted Goodies
You will have to consider who you are buying for with this one as some people get offended if you give them used gifts. I have a list of friends whom I know adore thrifted goods. Baskets, art work, coffee mugs, and planters are all great to thrift for!
Framed Pictures
Picture frames from liquidation stores are relatively cheap and you can print out photos at most pharmacies for pennies! We do this every year for our grandmas and aunts!
Fancy Drinks
The coffee snobs and wine buffs in your family will appreciate a thoughtful bag of beans or bottle of wine! Do a little research into coffee online (I love Counter Culture!). Try going to a trendy wine shop and asking them for an affordable bottle that will impress a wine-o.
I hope this gift guide helps you out this holiday season, homemakers! A well thought out gift trumps a poorly planned expensive gift every time!
